Cost vs Time vs Quality When it Comes to Animation or Video Production

Venn diagram with three circles. One says

Cost vs Time vs Quality

We did not come up with this idea but it is a great diagram that makes it's rounds in any service business, but especially in creative industries. The more clients can see this, a better understanding they will have of what are reasonable expectations for a project.

Everyone wants high quality, delivered quickly and at low cost. But the reality is, that is impossible. And more importantly, it is unreasonable to expect of any human being.

What is possible is:

High Quality Delivered Quickly but Will Cost You

You may have a high-quality animated video delivered quickly but the privilege will cost you. Making a product that is first-rate takes attention to detail and therefore time. So to get such a quick delivery, the producer may have to forgo other paying work, or work evenings and weekends, or hire others to assist. This will all cost money. Kohlitz can give you quote for what it may cost, if it is even possible. But no matter the scenario, we will be honest with you. If the high cost is a deterrent you may opt for the following:

Delivered Quickly at an Affordable Rate but Don't Expect High Quality

We get clients all the time who realize they have a tradeshow coming up or that they are nearing the end of their marketing expenditure for the year, or for whatever reason, need a video or animation ASAP. However, most business have a budget they must stay in as well. If they contact Kohlitz, they can most likely get a video or animation made lightning-fast, that meets their aims and budget but they must realize quality will suffer in ratio to how little time and budget there is. At Kohlitz Animation & Video Production, we'll tell you what's possible within your means and timeframe. From there, you can decide how you'd like to proceed.

High Quality and Affordable but the Delivery Will Take Time

They typical video or animation production falls into this range. Fortunately for us, most clients aren't rushing in the door expecting a one week turn-around. (If you're wondering what is reasonable timeframe, here at Kohlitz we typically take 6-8 weeks for a one 1-3 minute animation and 5-6 weeks for a 1-5 minute video production. Read more about why the timeline is what it is , at this blog entry, "Typical Timeline for a Video or Animation Project.") As such, they receive Kohlitz's best work within a reasonable cost.

However, I do want to make one caveat in regards to this option, unless I'm producing a production for a non-profit or cause I strongly care about, there is no amount of waiting you can do for a high-quality product for an extremely low price.

If you are planning on a video or animation project and have a deadline for it, please reach out to us sooner rather than later. Otherwise, you might into one of the other categories!
